India Beat West Indies by 14 Runs: Arshdeep Shines as Bowling Changes Pay Off

India defended 223 runs in Indore to take a 2–1 lead in the five-match T20I series, with Arshdeep Singh taking three wickets and the team’s revised bowling combination helping secure victory.

India Beat West Indies by 14 Runs: Arshdeep Shines as Bowling Changes Pay Off

India defeated West Indies by 14 runs in the third T20 International at Holkar Stadium, Indore, on October 11, taking a 2–1 lead in the five-match series.

After losing the previous match, where West Indies chased down 250 runs, India faced another test while defending a big total. This time, the bowlers held their nerve and restricted West Indies to 209 for seven in 20 overs.

Abhishek Sharma Powers India to 223

Batting first, India scored 223 runs. Abhishek Sharma led the attack with 69 off just 30 balls, including six fours and five sixes. Ishan Kishan added 37 from 18 deliveries, helping India race to 115 runs before the middle order lost momentum.

India eventually lost all 10 wickets in 20 overs. Although the total was challenging, the team still needed a much stronger bowling performance than it had produced in Ranchi.

What Was the Selection Strategy?

India made two changes to the playing XI, bringing in Prince Yadav in place of Kuldeep Yadav and Nitish Kumar Reddy in place of Shivam Dube.

The changes gave India a different bowling combination. Prince offered a pace option, while Reddy provided another seam-bowling choice alongside his batting. Such flexibility can be useful in high-scoring T20 matches, where teams need bowlers who can handle both the early overs and the final stages.

However, the victory should not be credited to selection changes alone. India’s bowlers also executed their plans better, took important wickets and prevented West Indies from completing another successful chase.

Arshdeep Singh Leads the Bowling Fightback

Arshdeep Singh was India’s leading bowler, taking three wickets for 44 runs. Most importantly, he dismissed West Indies captain Shai Hope early and later struck at a crucial stage of the chase.

Naman Dhir also made a major contribution, taking two wickets for 39 runs, including the dangerous Shimron Hetmyer and Kamil Pooran. Both batters had threatened to bring West Indies back into the match.

Axar Patel and Nitish Kumar Reddy took one wicket each, helping India keep the required run rate under pressure. West Indies finished on 209 for seven, 14 runs short of the target.

What the Win Means for India

The victory restores India’s lead in the series and shows the importance of a balanced bowling attack in high-scoring T20 cricket. After conceding 250 runs in the previous match, India responded with a more effective collective effort.

The next challenge is consistency. With two matches remaining, India will need both its batting and bowling units to perform together if it wants to seal the series.
