Amit Shah Targets Bhagwant Mann Government Over Punjab’s Law and Order

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has raised concerns over drugs, gangsterism and organised crime in Punjab, citing incidents in Dirba and Mansa and demanding accountability from the Bhagwant Mann government.

Amit Shah Targets Bhagwant Mann Government Over Punjab’s Law and Order

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab over concerns about drug trafficking, organised crime and public safety. In a post on X, Shah questioned who would take responsibility for protecting the people of Punjab and called for concrete action against criminal networks.

Shah referred to two incidents—one in Dirba, where a father reportedly consumed poison amid pressure, and another in Mansa, where anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotta was killed in broad daylight. He said the incidents had raised serious questions about the state’s law and order situation.

Amit Shah Calls for Answers from Punjab Government

In his statement, Shah questioned Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government over its handling of drugs and organised crime. He argued that people needed results rather than promises and announcements.

Shah also said Parvinder Singh Jhotta’s father had made serious allegations against the AAP government and a party MLA. These allegations remain claims and require independent investigation; they should not be treated as established facts without supporting evidence.

The Union Home Minister said the Union Home Ministry would seek responses from the Punjab government regarding both incidents.

Parvinder Singh Jhotta Murder Raises Concerns

The killing of Parvinder Singh Jhotta in Mansa has become a major political issue because he was known for speaking out against drug abuse. Shah highlighted concerns about the safety of people who campaign against drugs and questioned whether the state was doing enough to protect them.

The incident has also intensified the political debate over the alleged links between criminal activity, drug networks and political influence in Punjab. Any allegations of political protection for criminals would need to be examined by investigating agencies and supported by evidence.

BJP Promises Drug-Free and Gangster-Free Punjab

Shah reiterated the BJP’s commitment to making Punjab drug-free, free from gangsterism and safer for its residents if the party forms the government in the state.

He said the party’s priorities would include action against drug trafficking networks, protecting young people from substance abuse, taking strict action against criminals and ensuring that the rule of law is upheld.

The remarks add to the political pressure on the Bhagwant Mann government to demonstrate progress on public safety and its anti-drug campaign. The Punjab government’s response to Shah’s latest allegations, as well as the findings of any investigations into the incidents, will be important in assessing the claims made by the Union Home Minister.
